not a good start for a breakfast!

it was a bad way to start my breakfast when I overheard an Indonesian woman talking to a native man.

I dont know where and how they started such conversation and I cant even think that that couple can end up in a mere by-the-road poor place for breakfast(just to make it clear--warung soto kaki lima pinggir jalan!) for their breakfast.

i started overhearing them when i decided to sat in front of them and listening how bad the women's english and how rough their conversation got through with the women's lack of english.

It was a moment when I amazed by how they communicate to each other, at almost the same time they were talking about "some moslems are bullshit". I, not only tickled, but also get annoyed with such statement..especially since it came from the women(GoD! I wish I could Slap Her!). and foolishly, I continued my meal as if there were nothing or I am too fool to understand them.

the main thing that I got from their conversation is the f**kin female wanted to show that even moslems do bad things, like doing hypnotize trick("that's what I translated from "gendam", some sort of trick of robbery that hypmotize the victim so that the victim can do whatever the robber wants,such as giving their money or jewelries under the victim's unconsiousness"). She was emphasizing that they started the gendam thing with the formal and friendly meeting of moslem's : the SALAM. "Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh"

in the mind of eka : "Hey, you cant judge them by such sample! it doesnt have to be a moslem to greet like that and then do the robbery...it will make the native fear that every time he's greeted by the SALAM, the will think that he's going to be robbed by gendam."...

I got tempered because I was too coward to talk to them, and there is no chance that i'll get the same opportunity...GOD, forgive me...

kenapa judulnya Let's see?
karena kita hanya akan menunggu apakah topik2 yang diperdebatkan atau menjadi mosi dalam kompetisi tersebut akan terdengar oleh mereka yang menyelenggarakan?

apalagi untuk dilaksanakan...kita mungkin hanya bisa menunggu...
jika kontribusi UGM dalam meningkatkan kualitasnya(yang katanya world class universities) tidak cukup hanya dengan menggelar kompetisi2 semacam itu saja. apa lagi jika menilik dari komentar sang pelaksana,Rudi bahwa studi banding ke ITB menghasilkan wacana bahwa harus ada anggaran bulanan untuk itu.

sebagai mahasiswa UGM yang tercinta..ciehh..

tidak cukup hanya dengan menganggarkan dana bulanan yang dikasih ke PPKB yang belum tentu ada juntrungan hasilnya kemana..duit kita aja dah dipake buat jalan2 keBnadung...katanya sih ke ITB...:-p

yang ada adalah pembenahan mental para mahasiswanya dalam berbahasa inggris. Diberikan diskon untuk kursus bahasa Inggris di EF atau mungkin seperti yang ada di jurusan Matematika bahwa mereka memberikan subsidi bagi para mahasiswa untuk tes TOEFL di PPB sedemikian hingga mahasiswa hanya perlu bayar Rp.5000! Saya cukup ragu akan program2 yang kemungkinan akan dilaksanakan oleh PPKB...so highly idealistic..mbok sebaiknya dilihat keadaan di dalam diri UGM sendiri...kenapa yang terlihat mampu berbahasa Inggris hanya mereka yang ikut lomba debat? Kenapa yang ikut lomba debat hanya sedikit? tidak perlu mereka jauh-jauh ke ITB. wong yang mau dididik adalah mahasiswa UGM kok. aneh...

beberapa fakta yang terlihat di mata saya sebagai mahasiswa yang cukup tua di UGM(baru 3 tahun sih...), bahwa berlaku beberapap hal berikut:
1. Mahasiswa umumnya malu untuk diajak berbahasa Inggris..
2. Banyak mahasiswa yang bertanya "literaturnya bahasa inggris ya pak/bu?" ketika diminta untuk mencari artikel suatu materi. dan jika dijawab "iya" oleh dosen, mereka terlihat "menciut"
3. MASIH tidak mau melihat bahwa bahasa inggris adalah suatu keharusan atau kebutuhan.
4. MASIH selalu menganggap bahwa kualitas bahasa inggris mereka masih rendah, tetapi TIDAK ADA KEINGINAN untuk mempelajarinya lebih lanjut.

beberapa yang mungkin untuk dijadikan solusi :
1. mengadakan mata kuliah "pengantar bahasa inggris" diawal kuliah..dengan materi yang sesuai dan berbobot, tentunya.
2. mengadakan tes TOEFL atau IELTS secara rutin dengan sistem pay-back untuk mereka yang mendapat score yang bagus. kalau bisa, yang lisensi internasional.
3. mengadakan kursus bahasa inggris yang murah bagi mahasiswa UGM(we've paid so much, though!).
4. Encouraging the lecturers to have a special course(such as colloqium,etc) which can be held once a month, open for any degree, delivered in English..I believe that all of UGM's lecturers are proficient in english ..

untuk diingat...
tidak perlu ke bandung untuk tahu bagaimana caranya mengembangkan bahasa inggris di tubuh UGM...be like the students...and YOu'll be able to find out why we're this way...

English Debating Contest

english debating contest?
mmm...in what manner should I review..

This morning, I managed to watch one session in GDC hel by ppkb due-like UGM. in order to accomodate my curiosity in debating contests in varsity level.

I was thrilled, trembled. for i am not someone new in this part, seeing and watching such thing makes me happy. Seeing both team build cases, attack opponent's irrelevant cases, while at the same time make friends with either side, even with the adjudicators.

It was the motion "This House believes that KKN doesn't give any contribution" that was debated. in my opinion, both team build weak cases...even the affirmative team give the idea about wasting money, time and unwillingness that burdens the participants of KKN, while in the Opposite team came up with a case that KKN is really contributing either to the students who join it or the society...in was bad to know that the Opposite team loses this debate, because they can build better cases even though lack of elaboration but failed to show that the affirmative's cases.

what i should remember was:
1. as the first speaker, we must(remember it's a MUST!!) that  we build a strong case! define well(not too narrow but not too wide), give clear parameters. and elaborate our cases efficiently. good case and good elaboration will help our mate easier to elaborate and tackle the opponent's argument. our speech is the base for our mate
2. as the 2nd speaker, we must(again..)hold our team's cases well, tackle some main idea of opponent's cases. and elaborate another idea from our cases. the main job as the 2nd speaker is to strengthen the case and defend the attacked case. and bring in the solution( if there's any that's necessary)
3. as the 3rd speaker, it is not necessary to bring in another idea. is is the job the tackle the idea of the opponent's side. but dont tackle each statement and facts. it'll waste our time.
4. as the reply sepeaker, it is necessary to conclude the debate with what ur strong cases are, what are the weaknesses of the opponent time. 
and persuade the adjudicator why our team should win this debate.

bukan hal luar biasa

Bukan hal yang luar biasa ketika seseorang mempunyai sebuah blog sendiri. Gratisan Pula. Yang luar biasa adalah niatan dibalik perbuatannya membuat suatu blog.. Yang akan lebih baik lagi jika blog itu dibuat dirumah lalu tinggal copy-paste ke blog, jadi ga bakal keluar duit lebih banyak...tapi gimana caranya yah?

InasyaALLAH blog ini akan rajin untuk diisi. dengan bantuan dari link teman2..

jadi, kalo ada yang berminat, silahkan saja...

tapi isi blog ini mungkin belum panjang2 banget. Karena idenya juga lagi dadakan
